Mute The TV are a two piece band of brothers, Elliot Crampton and Dylan E. Crampton.

Fusing together their respective influences and musical styles, their aim is to approach their music in a way that neither of them are accustomed to. With Dylan and Elliot being brothers and perfectionists, many an argument ensues during the recording process, something that has plagued many bands before them, but given that they are brothers, it always turns right.

The brothers started the project during the first Coronavirus lockdown as a way to stay busy and creative and released three singles, ‘’With You’’ which features their friend and local musician, Jack Joyce, ‘’Only The Good Times Matter’’ which has been streamed over twenty thousand times on Spotify and charity Christmas single, ''Christmas Without You'' - where they managed to raise a whopping €600 for the ISPCC through downloads of the song.

Both Dylan and Elliot have been releasing music under various guises since 2012, but this is the first time that they have joined musical forces. With appearances at various Irish festivals, the RTE Late Late Show and Whelan’s One’s To Watch, the brothers are combining their experiences and are excited to see where it takes them, no rules apply.

The band are currently in the studio working on their debut album - Love, Hate and Devotion

Speaking about the single, Elliot says

I wrote this song during the first lockdown, so, it's sort of fitting that it's being released in another lockdown almost a year later. I wrote it at a time when my depression and anxiety was spiralling, which ultimately lead to a breakdown. I couldn't sleep, I could barely eat, I was crying at night time and overall I was very anxious. I sought professional help through my doctor and a therapist and tried to change my lifestyle with running, sea swimming and better food and have managed to pull my mental health into a much more positive place. I'm now coming off anti-depressants too. I'm also very lucky to have my family and a few very close friends who helped me navigate through this difficult time. I guess the song for me musically, is a sort of reflection of how manic my brain was at the time and I think Ellie managed to capture this in the artwork too.

The song is very much me speaking to myself. I'm very self-aware and so when I know I'm not feeling good, I'm very aware of it and tell myself that I'm being irrational and that I'm blowing things out of proportion, but at the same time, I couldn't shake these feelings. So the first verse, ''I got a lot to tell ya, but you won't open up your ears, so concerned with the future, 'cause everything is so unclear, it's alright'' is me telling myself to listen to myself and that I know the future is unclear, but it'll be alright.

The second verse then, ''you've got so many questions, I can only answer one or two, it's no cause for panic, I'm figuring it out too, it's alright, you've got some time to figure it out'' - is me acknowledging that I'm freaking out, what career path should I follow, will I ever have a gig again, will the Coronavirus situation get better, can I make a career out of being a musician, will I ever get a mortgage, will my parents be alright? etc. and accepting that I don't have all of the answers, but telling myself that I now have some time to try to figure some of this stuff out.

Something I relied heavily on during this time was listening to music, as cliche as it is, it was an escape, hence the lyrics, ''turn up the stereo, mute the tv, it's all you gotta do to get through to me'' - I also thought it would be sort of clever to work the name of the band into the lyrics, maybe it's naff, I don't know, but I like it.
